Hi. I am about to make a claim via Leisure Guard damage excess insurance as our hire car in Crete got a windscreen chip.

The hire company said the minimum they had to charge for that was €350. That seems a bit OTT even though hopefully we'll get the money back via LG.

Has anyone else had recent experience of what hire companies actually charge when there is damage and you are insured separately?

How would the hire company know you have separate excess insurance? The charge will include loss of rental while the screen is being replaced.

Hi – I hired a Hertz car in France in July and unfortunately hit a pothole which blew a tyre. My credit card has been charged 499.57 euros “Damage Charge/estimate” and 50 euros “Damage processing admin fee”. However there is no detail as to what the charges relate to – presumably a new tyre, but maybe also a new wheel, towing charges, etc?

So your charge may be reasonable if you start to include extras. Have they given you a Damage Report with a breakdon of the costs? My Excess Insurance company have said they want one before they will reimburse me (I’m struggling to get one from Hertz though).
