Transferring a cash ISA - so much paperwork?

I am simply trying to transfer existing ISA money from one ISA to a new one. Every single one I have tried requires reams of identification, offline form filling, 15 business days, and the successful completion of an assault course, it feels.

Is this the case with all providers? I just want it to be simple and its a nightmare
Friendly greeting!

Many of the best-paying ISAs are offered by smaller players with more rudimentary onboarding processes, so it's not unusual but certainly isn't universal....
  • Hi,
if doing online your new provider should do all the paper work, what are you doing wrong?

and the successful completion of an assault course
    This made me laugh  :)

Have a look at the list provided on the Cynergy Bank website. My understanding is that if both providers are listed then the transfer should be largely done online (Note - I don't have/transfer cash ISAs so I may be wrong!).

Did two ISA transfers online for me and wife from Coventry to Santander with relatively few mouse clicks and reference to the relevant account numbers to fill in (late April/early May).  Process completed in just a few working days, I think.  Completely online, except that it took more time to open the multiple letters sent to both of us from both organisations as a result of asking for the transfer.

Paper form filling and ID issues:  can you not do it all online? Or are the transferring in ISA providers you are trying especially odd?

    Names might help?
  • From Barclays to cynergy/shawbrook/principality all tried, helping MIL out.

Cynergy want IDs a blind 94 year old doesnt have.
Shawbrook it seems needs you to print out a form that is pre-filled online, so no idea really what that's about.
Principality is about the worst online banking experience i've ever had. Still cant be sure what they want.

    So, others with such experience?

Thanks for responses so far (apart from "what are you doing wrong?" person)
    Friendly greeting!

Drip feed info won't you.  The most relevant info is the blind 94 year old bit, probably.  No Passport or Driving Licence but must have a DWP pensions increase letter or HMTC tax notice?

    Cynergy say:

The following documents can be accepted in instances where a passport or driving licence cannot be used.

We can accept one of the following if you are a UK Resident.

    • Current Benefits Agency letter (evidence of entitlement to a state or local authority funded benefit (including housing benefit and council tax benefit), tax credit, pension, educational or another grant
    • HMRC tax notification dated within 12 months
    • Home Office immigration status document or application registration card
