I shouldn't have looked at this thread, I've just read all 9 pages and I have a huge list of stuff I MUST have!

Just to add a couple of items I love: Mac Tinted Lip Conditioner (mine's called fuschia fix, a lovely pink). It is a little pot and it lasts forever, I got mine last July and use it everyday and I've barely made a dent in it! It tastes/smells divine (vanilla!) and it has an SPF 15 so I used it on holiday to protect my lips, much nicer than the other lip protectors I tried!

My favourite shampoo and conditioner is an Avon one, believe it or not. Called Advanced Techniques Intense Repair. I tried every type of shampoo, spent a fortune and managed to settle for one that is very often on special offer so I stock up when it is £1 a bottle! I never used to get compliments on my hair, but since I've been using it everyone says how lovely it looks and when I urge them to have a feel it is soooo soft! I love my hair now! I've managed to convert my Mum from using £15 Molton Brown shampoo to Avon and she loves it too!:j

I just got two bottles of the TOMMYGUN shampoo from Boots (£2 off each with the haircare voucher), so after voucher £3.99.

Tried the green one, will try the yellow one today.

They smell like they were made 200 years ago by a herbalist.

The green one says for greasy & combo hair, but I would say its more for greasy as I found it a little strong.
I will let you know about the yellow one.

    They smell great.

The new LIGHT double wear by Estee Lauder, is available online now. Not in stores till the very end of March.

    HELP:o

There were reviews of the double wear light in the papers yesterday. Does that mean it's in the shops? has anyone tried it yet?

I am booked in at my local Estee Lauder counter for a full consultation (skin matching etc) on 2nd April, they give you 10 days worth if you have an appointment.

Its available online now and in the shops at the beginning of April.
  • Hi all,

Great thread. I've been finding that I'm spending a fortune on make-up and skincare recently. Can't get away with not bothering anymore (32 years old) because my skin tends to look dull and getting a few wrinklies. I've always tended to opt for natural products but am willing to try the not-so-natural if they work! Thought I would post my experiences of the Dr Hauschka range as it's not been mentioned yet, right, deep breath, here goes:

Dr H conditioner (jojoba and marshmallow) - awful! - hair full of knots afterwards, binned it before I finished the bottle as it was so bad. Have since been using Phyto products (from John Lewis) - these are excellent and I've been complimented on my hair recently by friends (good condition/shiny) so worth the money!

Dr H bath oils (rosemary wakes you up in the morning and lavender chills you out at night) - expensive but good, they disperse in the bath water rather that floating in a oily puddle on top. Will buy again.

Dr H body oil (moor lavender) - would buy again, though it comes in a small bottle and I don't tend to use it over my entire body as it's too expensive. Is nice to massage your feet with or the back of your neck if feeling stressed/headache.

Dr H - Lipsticks - these are excellent and worth the money in my book, strong colours and moisturising and feels really luxurious. Tasteful gold packaging looks expensive (which they are - lol!)

Dr H lipgloss - is a good lipgloss but nothing special (natural ingredients though which is why I buy it).

Dr H lipbalm - rubbish, doesn't moisturise! Would not buy again - waste of money.

Dr H cleansing cream - I really liked the skin care range to begin with, my skin looked healthy and glowing for the first 6 mths of using it, however, I now think that the cleansing cream can be a bit too drying.

Dr H toner - lovely to use, would buy again, comes with a pump spray applicator so really easy/nice to use - just spray it on your face!

Dr H day cream, nice to use, smells nice, wouldn't think it was strong enough for dry skin though.

Dr H rose cream - better for dry skin, though a little heavy for me.

Dr H quince cream - somewhere in between their day cream and rose cream. bit boring though smell-wise not an earth-shattering product though does the job.

Dr H rhythmic conditioner - you are meant to use no night cream with Dr H regime. I gave it a try and found that this stuff (which comes in little glass ampoules and is water-based so it allows the skin to breath and detoxify at night) did improve my complexion. However, I am finding that there is simply not enough moisturiser in the Dr H regime and I don't even have dry skin, I have normal skin.

Strange though now I've gone back to using a night cream my skin/pores do feel heavy and overloaded, so I just can't win!

Dr H rejuvenating mask - this is a good product, my skin looks soft and fresher after using it. Will be buying this one again.

Dr H moisturising mask - got a sample of this - it is very moisturising and skin was super soft and plumped up after use. Preferred rejuvenating mask though as skin looked 'brighter' afterwards. Moisturising mask more suited to people with dryer skin.

Daily revitalising eye cream - don't think this product does anything to be honest.

As you can see I went for it in a big way with Dr H, so sorry for the long post, I wanted to let people know that there are some great products in this range and some that aren't so great!

Was thinking about trying Elemis papaya enzyme peel to kick-start my skin and Estee Lauder advanced night repair protective recovery complex (the one in the brown bottle) to feed/nourish it. Also tempted by Decleor neroli oil. Dame that In-Style booklet 100 Best Beauty Buys – it’s costing me a fortune! Still, good fun though ain’t it? ;)

Take an old mascara into Boots Estee Lauder counter and they exchange for a trial size of new mascara, I did think it had ended but took one in on Thursday and yesterday to two different shops and exchanged no problem. Also free on the front on this months GLAMOUR magazine there is a credit card size voucher on the front that if you take to any Estee Lauder counter they give you a free trial size mascara.

Whatever mascara you buy make sure it has not been opened. I work on makeup counters and what people do would turn your stomach, so anything NOT sealed leave it alone! the shelf life of mascara decreases as SOON as it is opened (plunged and plunged and wiped on peoples' hands, applied to their lashes...)
SPEND on mascara and foundation if you can.
Boots mousse foundation - no.7 lasts ages and you only need a small amount. Collection 2000 foundation may tempt you as its cheap but you may find it will drag on your skin and not cover very well. BUT their dazzle dust eyeshadow is very good.
do your whole lips with lip pencil in as close as possible a colour to your lips, I have found rimmel to be best.
Avon face highlighter is great - cant remember the name but they have a cheap one in a tube and a more expensive one in a stick. Both are lovely.
Cheap nail polish will cost you in the long run by being hell to remove and staining your nails if its a dark colour like plum red or green (speaking from experience here LOL;))
BUT go cheap if it is a passing trend like glitter eyeliner (my primark one is fine)
tips I learnt from my nanna who was a glamorous young lady during the war, bite your lips and pinch your cheeks before going out, and for a healtthy glow lie on your back on your bed with your head hanging off the edge for a minute.
if you are in a hurry, concealer, mascara, neutral eyeshadow and lipgloss should be all you need and therefore moneysaving. whatever you think if you have makeup on it does make you look and feel better, so i think it is worth it.
Now and again I treat myself to elemis cream/face masks but currently boots cheapo cleanser, toner and eye makeup remover are fine, and no7 face cream i got with a voucher when there was an offer on.
