Refund for gym membership

I recently moved and thought I be adventurous i and try an independent gym. I signed up and paid first months, but it’s VERY busy and quite far so decide to cancel within the 14-day so I got in to with the website contact form. 1 week, no reply, tried again no response. I rang them up they gave me email, sent email. Few days no response, tried several phone calls to check email and asking. Zero response.
Now I’ve canceled my banks direct debit, and I can file dispute with the first payment with bank but they said about legal action to recover funds by the other party so this scared me off for a bit.
so what should I do, just raise the dispute with bank to get refund as it’s within 14-days, as the gym seems to have zero interest in helping me

I would have just gone to the gym and sorted it face to face0

Was the signup online or in gym?
You cant use dd indemnity claim for that 1st payment unless they failed to inform you of the amount. So in reality that is taken in error or without authority.
DD have no cover for non receipt/use or consumer rights.
In reality it would be better to pay a visit & cancel.Life in the slow lane0 -
I did it online. I’m only claming the refund based on the 14-day law what I’ve done before. Well it’s kind of a travel. It’s the fact that they haven’t replied to my emails, they say I can only cancel by using email. Problem is on phone they’ve pretty much hung up on me.0

14 days does not cover every purchase online.
leisure activities is excludedYou also won’t get a cooling-off period for:
- accommodation (eg a hotel room or a short-term let)
- transport of goods (including courier services)
- vehicle rental services
- catering or leisure activities (eg hotel and restaurant bookings, theatre tickets, catering for a wedding or party)
For these services you’ll have the same cancellation rights as if you were making arrangements for them from the seller’s premises.

Well I’m on month rolling direct debit so guess it’s safe to cancel. It’s point that the contact form receive zero response. I’ve tried it twice aswell as 3 emails and 3 phones calls( who tell me to use the email)
I wouldn’t be surprised as the gym is extremely busy, they’re obviously looking to make money.0 -
Sorry , I meant it’s right to cancel my direct debit from my bank. I’ve had zero cooperation or response from any attempt, shouldn’t have to travel there when I recognise the people over phone saying send us an email0

Cancelling you DD is not cancelling your contract - you'll still need to do that otherwise you may still be liable for the monthly membership fees- regardless of whether or not you've used the facilities.1

Well what am I meant to do. I’ve phone them several times and they’ve given me the email What’s received zero response. They’re not responding at all.0

Also I’m not in contract, only monthly flexible. My membership details are described as such0
