Looking to get a  2G SIM to put in a Doro phone (recommened as simple to use for the elderly, 2G only) for use by an elderly relative and just wondering if anyone can advise best way to go?

Only need calls and texts, data not required and something like 30 day rolling contract would be ideal. Assume someone else might have similar requirements and may have trodden this path previously and really appreciate any advice you may have to offer.

Thanks

The cheapest sims come with data but if they dont use that then it just doesnt get used. I would recommend Lebara.
Read the reviews for Lyca before you go with them

Any idea on how much it will be used for outgoing calls?
Rwg do 100 mins and 100 texts for £2 pm, or 250 mins and 250 texts for £3.50
Probably the cheapest over the longterm without a commitment.

    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/pay-monthly/100-mins-100-sms-750mb-data-£2-month/

    If it's going to be used to make a lot of long outgoing calls then possibly worth paying for a year upfront. 1pmobile £36 for unlimited calls and texts;

    Both use ee signal.

hold on, if you are wanting this for a 2G only phone, look at the timetables for the various operators switching off their 2G networks.  I think O2 will be keeping theirs longest as that network is used for reading smart meters, so probably best to go with O2 or an MVNO that uses the O2 network.

There are various 4G capable non-smart handsets available, don't Doro offer any?

    4x2G phones
    1x3G phones
    8x4G phones

They'd be better looking for the nearest similar phone to their 2G phone in 4G to future proof perhaps.

As said earlier, what best suits your needs varies tremendously based on what your needs are. For the occasional call or text rwg topup £5 and charged at 5ppm. For regular use an intro deal from lebara or lyca, but price will increase after 6 months.

Thought I had come back and posted where we went in the end so sorry for delay

Went with 1pMobile who have a deal for £36 per annum which best suited needs and wife's Mum is now sorted and getting used to using the phone. Thanks for all previous comments, much appreciated and helpful

For just £36 you get unlimited calls & texts to UK landlines and mobiles AND 250MB of data per month, for a whole year.
