Being as theme of title of this thread is "winter heating"  just in case anyone is in any doubt as to whether Agile is considered the most appropriate "winter heating" tariff this was posted many months before energy crisis began, typical of consumers who have experience of these tariffs, "winter heating" either move to a specialised fixed tariff ( if available/an option) or change to/stay on Economy 7/10 tariff

See similarities of experiences low average rate on Agile Spring through to Autumn ...

I'm not sure I'd be basing a prediction of Agile pricing this winter on the situation a few years ago as things have changed radically since then. The only prediction I'd make is that Agile will either be better than E7 SVR pricing, or it will be worse, or it will be about the same!

Quite apart from the war in Ukraine and any knock on effect that has, we've also been seing some pretty extreme weather patterns and they can have a big effect on prices. Cold winter = high prices, warm winter = low prices. What's the weather forecast, err...

And in the case of Agile, unseasonably strong winds or bright sunshine (or lack of either of them) can have a big effect. We haven't (IMHO) got the balance right yet and should have started building more nuclear power stations years ago. But we didn't. And that means the volatile pricing associated with green weather dependant energy is (again IMHO) likely.

Volatile pricing creates the opportunity to save money if you have the right technology or processes to make good use of a TOU tariff. But you need to be disciplined enough to keep an eye on things and confident enough to make the call to switch to another tariff is it starts to go pear shaped. Smart metering gives you the information you need to stay on top of things and the technology you need to switch tariffs quickly.

But the converse is also true. To use another @[Deleted User] quote which I can't find but certainly resonated with me "these are not fit and forget tariffs". If you don't focus on really using the TOU tariffs to best advantage or take your eye off the ball and don't switch if prices go up, you could easily end up losing money.

One of the key advantages that owners of "box of bricks" storage heater owners have is the ability to buy their energy at a time of day when it is cheapest and store it in the form of heat for later use. So if anyone is well placed to make good use of Agile it should be E7 or E10 customers - but they have to be comfortable with the risks as well.

What we do know is at time that last screenshot post was written during early 2021 Agile product cap was 35p kWh, now it is £1 kWh

The other thing is several seasoned forum members regard EDF Eco 7 as best "winter heating" option.

This is what O/P asked  "If anyone knows of any other options for E10 suppliers I’d be grateful to know"

     EDF is currently best option.
  • I had a new Economy 10 Smartmeter fitted by SSE in 2021. All worked perfectly until in 2022 I decided to switch to Utility Warehouse who were offering a much cheaper Economy 10 price per kWh. UW Agent assured me they supported Economy 10 and I have documentary evidence to that effect. After several months of puzzling meter readings UW went on to deny supporting Economy 10 and confirmed I had been put onto Economy 7.

I complained to the Energy Ombudsman who found in my favour and I am now submitting a complaint to the Small Claims Court. I have calculated that I have been overcharged by at least £1,600.

I have now switched to Green Energy, one of the very few offering Economy 10 and all seems well.

Economy 10 is a brilliant Tariff for anyone like me who’s hot water and storage heaters are wired independently to turn on at Economy 10 times. I always use my washing machine and dishwasher during the cheaper times as well.

I don’t understand why electricity suppliers appear to be abandoning Economy 10. Does anyone out there know why?

Ofgem's lack of support my guess.

They openly admit - don't even have reliable measurement data for electric only homes - not the same thing as the meter profile class 2 TDCV (the median 4200 kWh per meter) they currently produce (but not all media bother publishing as it only impaces 10-15% of homes)  - or the knowledge of which of those homes do or do not use that electricity as the main source of heating - storage or otherwise - to regulate the electrically heated home market.

It's ironic at a time when grid / suppliers have peak demand times - at least in several regions - E10 and it's 3 split - off peak - in my case in EM 1-4pm and 8-10pm GMT - actively permanently encourage the use outside the 4-7pm peak times (looking at agile costings).
And the night to some extent (12-5am) even the late AM mini peak (around 7-8 am) - unlike some regional E7 timings.

My supplier has forced a poster here on E7 after a smets2 smart meter upgrade.
Its current terms and conditions say it will no longer support anything but single period off peak dual rate meters / billing.

So I'll book mark this thread and your Green Energy - just in case - still here when smets1 meter needs replacing.

  •  suppliers never publish their E10 tariffs online which means hours wasted on the phone trying to get through to someone to get quotes.

How is it that the standing charges vary so much?
It looks to me as if the higher amount of properties, the lower it is; for instance London and then the less there are the more expensive it is. I've recently moved into my late Mother's house because I got made homeless from my caravan, so you canguess that the costs seem astronomical to how much I paid before

Because the government and OFGEM between them have decided that there should be some recognition that it costs more to run, fix and upgrade the network and to supply customers in some areas.

They could spread it evenly but they decided not to.

There's a few other bits in there, but that's the basic background.
