It appears Halifax will be launching a new switching offer tomorrow. According to this is money you will receive £150 for switching an account to a Halifax reward or ultimate reward account, plus an additional £25/mth cashback if you spend £750/mth for the first 3 months, so £225 in total.

You are only eligible if you haven't received a switching incentiver from Lloyds, Halifax or BOS since April 2020.

EDIT: Full Terms are now live on their website:

This sounds like excellent news!  But what if you've switched from Halifax to another current account in the last year or two?

The full terms of the offer haven't been released yet so I can't give you a 100% certain answer but I can't remember them ever doing a switching incentive that's excluded those who have recently switched out of Halifax and there's nothing in the article suggesting that this wouldn't be the case this time around.

Therefore I'm pretty certain you should still be able to get the £225 from Halifax as long as you haven't received any money for switching an account into LBG since April 2020.

This is great news! Really hope they allow you to switch into an open and active HFAX Rewards account though - I already have 3!

That's brilliant, thanks.  Yeah we've not received any switching money from LBG at all, but have been customers in the past.  Let's hope that my (now) low credit score does not stop us from switching.

How existing Halifax Reward customers can get the bonus

If you already have one of the eligible Reward accounts the good news is you can simply open an extra account – you’re allowed to have three at once.

If you already have all three Reward accounts then you can downgrade one of those to a standard Halifax account (better than closing it down), and apply for a new Reward account for the offer.

For those who have 3 reward accounts already it may be worth waiting until 12/8/23 before downgrading an account as this will enable you to still receive the third £5 reward for July, before grabbing August's reward with the account you've just upgraded.

I couldn't help but notice this in @dealyboy's link:

You can spend with the card itself in a business, use it online or via Apple and Google Pay. However, some transactions won’t count. For example, you can’t use it to clear a credit card, overseas spending, gambling or cash withdrawals.

What’s unclear is whether the hack used to claim the monthly reward from the Halifax Reward account of topping up savings accounts or current accounts that allow debit card payments will work.

So it appears there's a pretty good chance that debit card deposits into a savings account won't work to get the extra £75.

Oh no - I guess we’ll have to look at the full list when they release the ts and cs. I think ‘cash withdrawals’ themselves refer predominantly to the ATM though, so hopefully the savings account trick still works.

So if you are an existing halifax customer and have a standard (non-reward) current joint account, you just need to upgrade?  Also would it be better or even possible for joint account-holders to open a sole account each instead?
