Flight cancelled due to birdstrike

Options
Hi, I'm just hoping someone can give me some advice here.

We are a family of 5 and travelled to Corfu for our holidays. When we arrived at the airport to return home we received a message via the app that the easyjet flight was delayed due to a birdstrike on the previous flight. After waiting 7 hours, we received another message that the flight was cancelled and another flight scheduledfor the following night. It was midnight at this stage and was extremely difficult to get a hotel room for a family.

I understand that we can claim for expenses online but has anyone any experience claiming compensation when the plane has had a birdstrike. Also, can I ask for evidence that this actually was the cause of the cancellation (as I have my doubts!)?

Thanks in advance

I've searched U2 3058 and cannot see much.

But I think the outbound flight never departed BFS so looks like good timely information wasn't provided, but guess depends what time youwent to the airport.

I suggest you ask easyjet exactly why they didn't operate that flight that day.

Maybe they will say the scheduled aircraft planned to operate that service had an event on a previous flight and unfortunately this caused the long long delay.

Esther way, I suggest you claim under EU27 is it? and just assume the airline let you down and ask for full compensation and maybe a goodwill gesture as your next few days were really put out of control.

Surly with so many aircrafts they could of used another one or flew in a spare as they have many local bases near BFS.

    Good luck.

Airlines tend not to have spare aircraft sitting around waiting for an emergency.  When not in the air the aircraft is costing them money, not making it.  There is also the issue of pulling together the required crew.

Not an emergency, they needed an aircraft to operate the service, they should obviously have standby equipment and crew especially in the UK.

Hopefully the OP had a nice holiday and a compensation claim X 5 will be a nice touch.

  • Thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it.

We received updates approximately every half hour.

The first message was that a birdstrike had hit the plane on a previous flight and that would lead to a delay.

The estimated time of the arrival kept changing and other passengers (who had booked a package holiday through easyjet) were informed that another plane was being sent.

There was no live flight tracker so I believe you're correct that no plane was sent.

I will look into compensation but I have read that due to the exceptional circumstance ie. a birdstrike, we may not receive it.

Do you know can I ask for a report of the flight when this supposedly happened?

    Thanks again
