Take whatever you have. The money-changers seem to operate on thin margins and will be happy to exchange most currencies for Turkish lira. (What is strange is that on the same street you will find money-changers almost next door to each other offering significantly different rates, all clearly labelled. You would expect that everyone would go to those offering the best rate, but that does not seem to happen.)
You can also usually find an ATM that offers free cash withdrawals, but be careful because most ATMs charge outrageous fees.
Don't change all your money at one: prices in lira are always rising, while the amount of lira you get per pound or euro increases almost every day.0 -
Where are you going? If a typical package resort, just take GBP, you'll find a lot of stuff priced in GBP anyway in resorts where most tourists are British. Turkey has high inflation so retailers often prefer major currencies like GBP/EUR as they don't devalue in the tills at much. You can change locally or withdraw from ATMs - avoid DCC, always choose withe "without conversion" option. Some ATMs charge. But changing cash is usually reasonable value.1
