You don't get it.AlexHaden2010 said:Right, thank you - I think I get it. The SVT for EDF, can be higher than the actual OFGEM price cap? They don’t make this easy do they?
There is not an "actual OFGEM price cap".
There is an average number that gets reported in the media. This is not the price cap. It's not even a price cap.
There is a price cap for "billing by direct debit in the Merseyside area". This is the price that EdF have told you.
They are not charging above the price cap on the SVT4 -
Each region is set a price cap by OFGEM. The caps vary a little, so prices for Merseyside region will be a bit different to Yorkshire, London, South West etc. The press dumbs it down by posting an average for the whole country but it is unlikely that any region will pay those exact prices.
The cap only applies to the SVT (standard variable tariff) so if your supplier offers a fix it may be above the 'cap' in anticipation of expected price rises over the coming year. It is up to you whether you want the peace of mind of knowing your tariff prices for a year or are willing to make a bit of a gamble on the SVT not rising too much.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
