(From memory) ... if the limit was 50 and you were doing 61 or less then you may get away with it. 62+ and you may get offered a speed awareness course (assuming you haven't already done one in the past 3 (?) years, in which case it would be £100 fine and 3 points).

Your memory is less than perfect!

    So it is ... 10% + 2 not 10% + 6 (which was what I was thinking). :)

Oh right I didn’t realise you could do that.

You can do - but it's always best to look out of the window,

Don't rely on a Sat Nav. Where I live we have so many people going up the wrong roads and even driving past No Through Road signs and still saying 'but my Sat Nav said.....'
Yes, it is an anxious time waiting and it can take ages I found when I got my one and only parking fine. And it was wrong, I wasn't liable. But apart from the stress and worry, feeling powerless it wasn't difficult to deal with.

Just wait for the letter and respond as soon as possible. A first offence is simple. A driving awareness course is almost as much as the fine and it varies according to the provider - but you don't get the points on your license so that is preferable.

When speed guns first came in I got stopped for doing 32 in a 30 mile zone!
And 34 on a completely straight and empty of all cars and pedestrians by a passing police officer. Wouldn't be so annoying but they never seemed to catch the teen boy racers on that road.
Both were a case of gritted teeth but it was a caution.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

And no, I have never been stopped or caught speeding in 30 years of driving and no speed awareness course.
I am just gutted and no excuse I was speeding but I was relying on my sat nav not looking for signs
You should also be aware that on a motorway there could well be variable or temporary speed limits that are not known by the sat nav and you will therefore get tickets if you aren't reading the signs on the road.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

There's a road where I live where Google maps says the limit goes from 40 to 60 to 30 and back to 40. The actual road signs are a constant 40. If you have the option, I'd turn the speed limit display off on your sat nav.

It's unofficially 10% + 2 mph but i know of people who've been fined/points/course below this but above the speed limit for the road, usually mobile device either in a vehicle or standing.

It's NOT unofficial. The guidelines have been in place in England & Wales) since 2011.  They are not secret - they're explained on many forces' websites - and are available here https://library.college.police.uk/docs/appref/ACPO-Speed-Enforcement-Guidance.pdf

Over the years, many people have claimed on pepipoo.com to have been booked below the threshold, but none have ever been able to substantiate the claim.
  • My strategy now: Keep to all limits, set limits 30 and 50 on in-car warning, keep sat-nav open and eye on limit as well as road signs, no overtaking unless really necessary. Point is other drivers go like the clappers but I often catch them up further on :D!
