Beware of Google Store's price match offer!
Options
Just a heads up for anyone considering purchasing from the Google Store and using their price match offer.
I was shopping for a new mobile earlier in the week and spotted that Google had a £100 off offer on the Pixel 7.
Their price match policy says they will match the pricing from Amazon UK (sold by Amazon UK), Curry's, Argos & John Lewis. This for the same spec phone in the same colour.
The phone was on offer on the Google Store for £499. Same price in Argos, Curry's & John Lewis. But I spotted a Chalk coloured Pixel 7 sold by Amazon UK for £444.49.
Google Store's price match policy says you need to send a web link of the competitor's price to Google for them to verify. A screen shot is unacceptable.
I ordered the phone from Google, then immediately submitted a price match claim quoting my Google order number and a link to the Amazon page showing the £444.49 price.
Later in the day I checked the Amazon price and it was still £444.49.
On following up the claim yesterday, Google are now saying the link shows the Amazon price at £599 so they won't price match to the £444.49 which was the Amazon price on Tuesday.
With hindsight I should have taken a screen shot of the Amazon price at the time. However as the Google Store price match terms say a screen shot isn't acceptable, I'm not sure what difference it would have made.
Given the highly dynamic nature of Amazon's pricing, it isn't a surprise that the price changed between Tuesday and yesterday. A point lost on Google Store's support team.
Anyway, as they were not prepared to honour their price match agreement I have sent the phone back for a full refund at their expense.

Yes, earlier in the week Google Store had a £100 off offer on the 128GB Pixel 7 in any colour and Curry's Argos & John Lewis mirrored the offer. It was also £499 for the Obsidian Black on Amazon (sold by Amazon UK). But the Snow was on Amazon (sold by Amazon UK) for £444.49 and the Lemongrass for around £455.
I wanted to buy from the Google Store in preference to Amazon as I could get 24 months interest free payments via Klarma on the Google Store. I would rather have the money in my account earning interest than paying the whole value up front.
In the end I ordered an Obsidian Pixel 7 128Gb from Amazon for £441 but sold by Only Branded co uk.
I was reluctant to buy from a reseller via Amazon, but the phone is covered by Amazon's 30 day return policy if it turns out not to be as described. It is due for delivery later today.
Update : Phone safely delivered. Factory fresh and sealed UK model so no issues with seller. Checked warranty validity on Google website after setting the phone up and it shows warranty to August 2025.0
