Middle name missing - Statement of truth.

We are selling our house and almost at exchange point. My husbands middle name is not on the Title at the Land Registry. However it is also not on his passport so therefore matches that ID. The buyers want us to update the LR with his full name. Our solicitors want to charge us an extra £125 + VAT to do this. I've said no as I don't see the need due to his passport matching. The buyers have said if we don't then they will need a "statement of truth". Our solicitors now want to charge us £125 + VAT to draft the statement of truth.... I am loathed to accept this extra charge. My question is can we ourselves create a statement of truth document to cover the name discrepancy? Or should I just accept the charge and get the solicitors to change the name on the title? I know we could do the LR name change ourselves at no cost but this would take longer than if the solicitors did it and would therefore delay the sale. It's more the fact of the solicitors trying to get more money from us that is annoying me. Husband says we should just pay but I'm annoyed and think I could easily draft a statement of truth. Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions.

    Maybe one approach is for you to suggest that, if your buyer wants a statement of truth - they should provide it, and your husband will sign it.  (Which realistically means the buyer would ask their solicitor to draft it at the buyer's cost.)

    Your solicitor might want to check the statement, but that should be much quicker than drafting one - so the cost might be minimal, or maybe included in the conveyancing fee.

    To be honest I would just get on with it soon all forgotten.

    If it's not on the title then where is it coming from? It seems pointless anyway, people use/drop their middle names all the time - doesn't suggest they are not the same person.

    Sounds odd for a buyer (or their solicitor) to be looking at your ID. No clues in what your solicitor has told you?

    If you are selling the property and your husbands name on the title matches the name on his primary ID, I can't see why the buyer's solicitor would have a problem with that.  The buyer's solicitor doesn't see your ID.  They will see the draft contract and the title documents and those documents need to match.

    Which document/ID does not match the title?  It does sound as though there is a discrepancy between the title and ID documents/contract.  Did you use your husband's Driving Licence as primary ID, instead of the passport?  Does this match, or not?   

    Did your solicitor draft the contract matching the Driving Licence name, rather than the passport name.  Could your solicitor amend the contract to match the passport and the title, thereby eliminating the need for a statement of truth??
