R40 Claim

Settlements on upheld PPI claims made on my late husband's mis-sold policies were made to me, his widow, in the tax year 2018/2019: my husband died in 2017. I submitted an R40 Claim in respect of taxed statutory interest in March 2022.
I received a response from HMRC in October 2022 which stated it was my husband's income details that are considered, not mine. Furthermore HMRC stated, "we have updated our tax records regarding the PPI claim, we assessed the tax year and the correct tax has been paid". They did not state which tax year; 2018/2019 [when my husband was no longer living] or 2017/2018. My late husband received no income from savings of any kind in the tax year 2017/2018 so I am somewhat confused.
I challenged the outcome and requested clarification by letter in October 2022. No response. I wrote again in February 2023 and have still received no response. I would appreciate any advice on this issue.

As it's post death income the 20% tax deducted from the interest would have been correct and no refund is due.
Disappointing though it may be you really are wasting your time.

Thank you for the link which I have read. The link explains the position and I agree with you, disappointing and yes I now understand I am wasting my time. It's just a pity HMRC didn't give that explanation rather than the two cryptic sentences stating it was my husband's income and the correct tax had been paid.
Thank you for your prompt response.1
