DEDUCTIBLE REFUND - CAR HIRE USA

Hi Hiring a car through GOTRENTALCARS.COM - - Ultimately it states the HIRE is from AVIS for car rental in the USA

One thing has popped up.

Booking states I receive the following all fairly standard.
Free cancellation (48h)
Fair fuel policy
Unlimited mileage
Theft coverage
Liability coverage
Collision damage waive

But this is the first time I've been offered this?

Deductible Refund
For only £8 per day, get a full refund of the amount of the deductible included in your rental contract, in case of :
Accident and material damages
Damages to rocker panels
Theft of your vehicle
Damages to windshield
Damages to tyres
Damages to roof

I've bought personal independant cheaper EXCESS INSURANCE policies before , is this the same as that?

But I had read normally US care hire companies charge zero EXCESS costs anyway, theyhave a differiing model to Europe.

I want to be fully covered for breakdown and damages also - now lost as to whether i am or I strill need an excess policy that does that also!?

Any help before prices shoot up would be great.

thanks

  • Yes deductible = Excess.  Zero excess is not a policy of all companies and there may be exclusions;  having a standalone excess policy from the UK is likely to be a simpler and safer option, may also be cheaper (especially if you rent often and take an annual policy).

That's not correct. USA companies charge full costs, but Muricans will have their own insurances.
What you mean is that if you book from the U.K., CDW is included in your booking cost. But that does not necessarily cover everything. Read your contract carefully and if necessary buying an excess policy that includes SLI. The Liability Insurance, if included, will be the minimum accepted by the state involved. A suitable excess policy with SLI would push that up to at least US$1,000,000.

    Agree with above.

Avis has recently dropped its SLI coverage to $500,000, so prior to a recent trip, I took out a policy to top it up to $1M.

The policy also serves to cover other excesses worldwide. For a yearly policy it was a little over £80.
