Mulled wine

We have been given a bottle of mulled wine for Christmas. We don't drink but don't want to throw it away. Has anyone any ideas for uses for it - puddings maybe? To make it extra hard they have to be vegan! I'm sure there will be someone who can help.

I don't have any specific recipes but I would think that any fruit would be nice gently poached in it. Those hard pears would be good or prunes and other dried fruit. However if you don't drink you will still get quite a dose of alcohol if you do this.0

You could have it as none alcoholic mulled wine. Just boil the alcohol off. Heat it up to just below boiling point.
Here is the science: -

I would put it in gravy for Xmas, and other roast gravy - gives it a very nice tast...make sure though you bring the gravy to the boil and let it simmer to cook the acohol off. Very nice as well if you cook red cabbage with it, but I know that red cabbage isn't that popular in the UK.0

I make a really nice mulled wine sorbet, but it does have egg white in it. However, I this recipe for a vegan sorbet - I'd have a go at replacing the water with the wine and then freezing it (I don't have an ice cream maker, I just take it out of the freezer and beat it every half hour till it's done - it won't freeze solid 'cause of the alcohol but you get a nice granita type dessert).
Just a thought though, is the wine vegan, as many aren't ...0 -

A simpler answer - give it away to someone else for christmas?0

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll give some of them a go - and I LOVE red cabbage (particularly if it's pickled!)
I don't mind if there's some alcohol left in if I'm cooking with it - we don't have any religious reasons for not drinking. We have very low tolerance to alcohol these days because we never buy any as we can't afford it. We don't really like wine anyway (much rather have lager).
The wine is vegan - I checked before it was opened.0 -
Google has let me down on this one so thought I would ask for some advice here. I have been given a bottle of mulled wine but really don't like it. (Ungrateful wench that I am!) In the freezer I have some good cubed beef (75% off -reduced to clear, naturally) and wanted to make something special with it.
Before I go gung-ho and ruin the beef would anyone be able to advise whether I could use the mulled wine as you would a red wine for cooking in a casserole of some kind. If not, is there anything else I could use it for? Thanks for any suggestions.0 -
What spices does it have in it? Presumably cinnamon. Do you have a recipe that uses those spices? Maybe something Greek or Middle Eastern? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
