Morning all; lovely sunshine here at the moment.
Everything planned got done yesterday, including the cake to take to today's Wake. Before then I should have time to go to the Community Larder and see what I can pick up this week. There isn't usually much of interest in the tins and packets but there's plenty to choose from in the fruit and veg section.
We had a beef rib, done in the slow cooker yesterday, as it seemed that sort of day. Tomorrow I need to get some food shopping done as the fridge is looking empty.
It was a good evening last night, playing for the Morris at a pub in a village about an hour's drive away. The pub was very welcoming and I'm sure we'll go there there again next year.
Enjoy your day everyone.11 -
Gers - I remember the days of polishing 7 pairs of shoes each morning - I did it while my children ate breakfast and got ready for school. My Dad always cleaned his shoes every morning - was in the regular army so a habit from there.

Good morning all,
I'm still trying to catch up. I didn't get chance yesterday as my boss seems to be making my life miserable atm so I'm just trying to survive the last 5 days working with him. My husband said he's going to take me out for dinner once this week is over which will be nice.
I was so angry yesterday we ended up with take away kebabs which I feel guilty about having but its either hotdogs or jacket potato tonight which i'm looking forward to. I'm not sure if I'll get any housework done. Maybe ill try and go round the house and collect all the rubbish I can find.
I hope the weather picks up a bit although I'm glad we haven't go the heatwave other countries have so maybe I should be grateful for that
London_1 I Hope everything goes ok
Gers that sounds like a nightmare

I'm back to unsettle GERS and BELLA with more airport/aircraft woes which DF told me about on Monday. Neighbour was flying back to Leeds/Bradford at the w/e. Plane was full and ready for take off. But it didn't!!! Apologies came over the tannoy telling them they hadn't enough cabin crew for a full plane so 24 people would have to be transferred to another flight! Some to Newcastle and some to Manchester later in the day! On arrival they would be transferred back to L/B to collect their luggage! You couldn't make it up could you?! Names of the 24 unfortunate ones having to get back off were read out. The said neighbour was amongst the lucky ones staying on the plane. I'm glad my travelling days are behind me!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"8

Afternoon everyone
I've been down to mam and dads for a cuppa this morning and then along to Farmfoods and M and S for some shopping. Got the bus back home - I've got to go into town later to pick up a prescription - I can use the same ticket so that's my money saving bit for today.
TA - oh no, don't tell me airport stories - I'm flying next week and it really isn't my favourite activity. I tolerate it because I get to see eldest DD and have a holiday but I really don't like all the hanging around. If it was like going on a train and you could just arrive 10 minutes before I'd like it a lot better!
Gers/Taff - my dad was always in charge of polishing our shoes when we were children. I used to always do my girls on a Sunday night and on any other occasion when they were slightly grubby - I could never have sent them to school with dirty shoes. They had friends who often were at our house and their shoes were always filthy -- my eldest DD one asked if I could clean theirs too! Now I do little ones when she's here and I'm always wiping mine with a baby wipe.
Wicked Lady - I wish we had one of those community shops here.
Mucky moo - it sounds like you'll be very happy to finish work.
Now I've waffled and have forgotten what everyone said so I'll just wish you all a good day x

Had my appointment OK, and the nurse is really pleased for me, and the news my op. won't be much longer. Transport arrived about an hour and a half later, by then I had had a nice cuppa and a chat to one of the volunteers there, and managed a good few rows of knitting done as well so no time was wasted.
My late Father originally polished our school shoes plus his, he was ex-army as well,(Scots Guards, then HLI ) and instilled a sense into his children that clean shoes were essential to looking smart.
Once my two brothers were old enough they took over the job, and had to take it in turn as one of their chores We all had jobs we were expected to do around the house growing up.
Mine was cleaning my late Mums collection of brasses, she had a brass topped table and it had, what seemed like far too many for me
I have spent many an hour ,usually around Saturday lunchtime cleaning those blessed things, when I would rather have been out playing with my friends. I grew to hate both the brasses, and the smell of the polish.
When I married in 1962 I told my late husband never to ever buy or 'treat' me to anything made of brass as it would go straight in the bin
Bless him he never did, but when ever we visited his late Mum I could still smell it when she's being 'doing her brass stuff' I wouldn't even have brass door knocker
But each to their own I guess
Right time for a cuppa I think and a wee bit more knitting
Cheers chums

Great that you're back home so soon and that all's on track for your op Jackie. I'll keep my fingers crossed until then.DP1 / Jackie /Florence My late Dad was an SQMS in the Royal Engineers (a regular) and would no more go out with unpolished shoes than fly in the air. He wasn't too keen on doing our shoes though
I can still see my brother and I in the utility room with polish, cloth and brushes. He always went out in smart clothes, suit and tie complete with cuff-links. Another different time.
TA - that's an outrageous tale of airports and seems ludicrous too.The physio was very kind. He gave me new exercises to help my knee this time. Then I took away the grass cuttings before going for lunch. My washing has dried nicely and I'm now content.10 -
-taff said:.carolbee, yes, it's not far as the crow flies but quite far if you have to drive it. It's not far from Avebury and Silbury Hill, worth a look but the parking is a bit dicey, there's a car park just outside the village but it only takes a few minutes ot walk into it. The pub is quite good. You might even see Julian Cope if you remember him, he lives in Calne I think. .... Floss, the main answer to the fatigue is just do nothing or as little as you can, it will pass. Thing is, with al the treatment, once it's stopped, you might feel a bit abandoned because after all the weeks of appointments and checks and treatment, when it all stops pretty much immediately, it can be a bit disconcerting. Is there a Maggies Center anywhere near you? They're very good for somewhere to go and chat or hang out. I can't be of more help sorry, I wasn't one to want to talk because I was so angry, I didn't want to be reminded more than I already was.....
I've had a chat with the local cancer support group who've put me on their wait list for counselling & offered a couple of other options. I've also been in touch with the local Macmillan team too - the nearest Maggie's is 30 miles away at the hospital I had my treatment.
And I've got a photo somewhere of me with a beer outside the pub in Avebury back in 2004 🤣2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
