Window install issue please help!

Had windows installed by a local company. They put really thick trim around my downstairs bay this is particularly noticeable at the top.
I asked the manager if there was any other solution as wasn’t happy with the finish/how it looks but he came round and said there isn’t another option. You can see there is a hole behind the top right of the trim from where the old window was removed - he reluctantly asked the fitter to fill that in.

Have included a before and after picture for comparison.
Wondering whether they could have plastered closer to the new windows to allow them to use a smaller trim? Grateful if anyone had any feedback on this as I don’t really know anything about windows just know I don’t like how this looks… help!

It looks like the new window is smaller than the old one, maybe that is the standard size?Perhaps the window should have been a couple of inches taller, maybe that would impact the cost of the window?0

Thanks. I think the trim is just cover the hole from removing the old window where plaster has come off. Surely they could just redo this plaster - is anyone able to confirm please?
Just took this picture from above the turn clearly a huge hole behind it. Wondering if I could get a plasterer (or push for window company to do this) to remove the trip and plaster closer to the window so that a smaller trim can be applied?0 -
It does look like a bodge to avoid tidying up the plasterwork. I’d ask them to remove the trim and make good.0

A tube of filler and 10 minutes work will see that looking fantastic and the job done. The rest of the window surround needs decorating anyway. The
The time and effort to try to get them to do what you want will take considerably longer.0 -
UPVC windows tend to have thicker frames than wooden.0
