Saved over £250 by looking (and booking) again closer to date

I am going to Spain in August '23, and booked the most affordable car I could find in March for £478. Today, 2 weeks before leaving and in high season, I looked again out of curiosity and found a much better deal for £220! Most car hires can be cancelled 48hrs before pick-up so it's well worth the 5 minutes or so to check shortly before setting off

Do be very careful with the extreme temperatures over there at the moment.  When we went to Australia we wanted to drive to Uluru but the temperature was 40 degrees and we were warned the engine oil could 'boil'.

Same thing with our car hire in Kos earlier this year we booked initially for about  £320 more than 6 months before our holiday, we needed to amend the pickup and return date, same number of days, same car was reduced to £230ish and our new voucher was for £230. A few weeks before our holiday we checked again the price had reduced to £166. We messaged Discover cars and asked if we could have the reduced price and they sent us a new voucher at the new rate. We paid a £13 deposit on the £320 and they even refunded part of the deposit  as it as a percentage of the cost of the car. We paid the balance when we collected the car.no hassle
