Refurbished phones - are they worth it?

Thinking of getting a refurbished phone from giff-gaff. I was wondering are they good value for money? given that the battery is usually 80%. I don’t want to buy a contract phone as they are over priced and not worth the money. Also, with phones it seems they are designed to slow down after 2 years of service.
How have people found refurbished phones?

We've bought our last 2 from CEX.

Fine for what we need, albeit quite a few models old.   In the £70-80 bracket, cat B, some minor scratches.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)
  • I bought an iphone from Giffgaff. Battery was not much over 80% so I sent it back.

Bought online from another seller. Battery at 90% which was more acceptable.

As long as whoever you buy from has a no quible returns policy then you will be fine.

Never noticed any phones slowing down over time but newer phones are faster as the processors develop.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

I was thinking of going with giff gaff or o2 but will check that they have a no quibble returns policy. Thanks 😊
  • I had no problem returning the phone to Giffgaff. Very easy process.  Physically the phone was fine.

I've bought my last three phones refurbished from Music Magpie from their very good category.

Apart from the packaging you'd struggle to know they weren't new.

My current iPhone 12 was bought in 2021 and even now is on 89% battery health. I estimate I'll get at least another year out of it before it needs a battery change or I upgrade  to iPhone 15/16

I've used both GiffGaff and O2 'like new', and they were both as described.
