Hybrid and long commute or non-hybrid and short commute

TheSpiddalKid said:Probably non-hybrid, but it's worth also looking at travel time. From where I live I can be in West Yorkshire in 35 mins (25 miles) or Manchester Airport in 45-60 mins (12 miles).
The drive for the interview was about 25 minutes, as about half of it is back lanes. I would save around 7.5 hours per week (from travel time and shorter working day).0 -

Could you ask if offered whether 2 days in the office and 3 days at home would work?

What are the driving times in rush hours? 20 miles can be over 1h journey..
But if the pay is the same - just add up times - I'd go for the one which wastes less.
If 20 miles takes 30 minutes - 1h per day, and 100 miles takes 90 minutes - 3h per day.
It's 5h vs 9h - I'd go for the local one.0 -

I'm looking at the huge time saving as well, not only from the commute but also the slightly shorter hours.
At the moment, I am leaning towards the non-hybrid role.... It will be nice to not have to get up at 5.15am!0 -
My wife has a short commute and works 5 hours less than me a week. This means when I work from home I've already started work when she sets off and I'm still at work when she gets back. I therefore don't have any more free time than she does. Unless you find commuting much more stressful than working it sounds a no brainer to take the non-hybrid.1

I agree with the last post. Neither. I currently have around a 100 mile round trip but thankfully only two days in the office. If something came up close hybrid I would think about leaving but no way would I return to the office full time.1

Well this all turned out to be a waste of time. Agency confirmed the salary, but on speaking to the company directly, the salary they were actually offering was £6k below what I am currently on. So....time wasted all round. 😵🙄0

Continuing my long-held belief that anyone with the word "agent" in their name is really a waste of a job1
