My son (23) left to travel Australia and shut his bank account down. He’s now received a hmrc tax rebate in cheque form and I don’t know how or where to deposit it for him, it’s for nearly £1k so we don’t want to lose it.

Why did he shut his account if he's gone travelling? Has he relocated to Australia? Does he have a new account?Bsmart42 said:My son (23) left to travel Australia and shut his bank account down. Assuming it is in his name, then it needs to go into a account with his name. If he has a bank acc in Australia he could ask them if they will take it.
Other option is for him to call them & see if they will make a payment direct to his account.Life in the slow lane1 -
He was going there to live, so he cancelled most of his stuff here. He has a wise account but you can’t pay cash or cheques into that. He hasn’t got an Australian bank account as he doesn’t need one as the wise account does what he needs at present - well apart from pay into 🙄Emmia said:

Yeah, the cheque is in his name. No bank acc in Oz, just a wise account but cannot pay cash or cheques into that. I will have to try and get him to call uk he’s not keen on doing that due to the cost on his mobile! I think in the grand scheme of money a call cost will be worth it!born_again said:Assuming it is in his name, then it needs to go into a account with his name. I live in Australia and if he gets a Vodafone SIM card there are various pay as you go options that also include calls to several countries UK being one of them. My current plan is $30 a month which gives me 1000 international minutes and 50 international texts. The only time I used all my minutes was when a family member was ill.Yeah, the cheque is in his name. No bank acc in Oz, just a wise account but cannot pay cash or cheques into that. However as the cheque has been issued it may be more of a headache.
Would it be a possibility to apply for a joint account for you and him?0
