My son (23) left to travel Australia and shut his bank account down. He’s now received a hmrc tax rebate in cheque form and I don’t know how or where to deposit it for him, it’s for nearly £1k so we don’t want to lose it.

Assuming it is in his name, then it needs to go into a account with his name. If he has a bank acc in Australia he could ask them if they will take it.
Other option is for him to call them & see if they will make a payment direct to his account.Life in the slow lane1 -

Yeah, the cheque is in his name. No bank acc in Oz, just a wise account but cannot pay cash or cheques into that. I will have to try and get him to call uk he’s not keen on doing that due to the cost on his mobile! I think in the grand scheme of money a call cost will be worth it!Thanks 😊MFiT-T7 #17 (Jan 2025) £193k (Apr) £177k (July) £

However as the cheque has been issued it may be more of a headache.
Would it be a possibility to apply for a joint account for you and him?0
