Flight Tom 057 Punta Cana to London Gatwick 8/7/23

This flight was canceled after everyone had checked in due to problems with the hydraulics. We were sent back to all-inclusive hotels for the duration. The total delay time was 54hrs and 59 minutes. 

I know we are entitled to the EU 261 compensation. But how do I claim for the loss of earnings? I have had to take 2 days off unpaid. I also had to fork out £141 for a taxi home. As we landed on a weekday as opposed to the Sunday morning my brother could not pick us up. My wife has mobility issues so waiting for trains or coaches was out of the question.

would you not claim for those consequential losses from your travel insurance?
