Been with Tandem for about six months, I too had reservations as app only but they have been faultless great customer service, good rate (an increase wouldn’t go amiss 😉)

simple easy app quick withdrawals and deposits if they fall behind (for me this is about 0.5% difference) I’ll move but up to 0.5% I’ll stick
They just increased to 4.36% this week, which is now the leading rate for easy access accounts.

I've just opened a Tandem account and funded with £1 to get a feel for it.

I'm happy with the app but I'm not at all happy with the security. Logging into the app requires just my mobile number and then they text me an OTP. The problem with that is that if someone has my phone they have the number and the ability to receive the OTP.

Tandem's blurb says that they have a different login if you enable biometrics on your phone but I already have a fingerprint lock on the phone. I tried face recognition but I've found it very unreliable, and that didn't seem to change the Tandem login either so I'm a bit stumped.

And can then transfer your money out to . . . . one of your linked accounts in your own name 🤷‍♂️

Have started using Tandem after Zopa technical problems. Like it. Like being able to have more than one linked account. Deposits and withdrawals seem fast if not instant. My only dislike is the code by text. I prefer having a pin as not always convenient to get SMS on phone but that is trivial really. Recommend them definitely

I agree i'd like a passcode (6 digit pin) as well as the OTP. It prompted me to use App Lock (andriod) on all my sensitive apps which adds another layer but not ideal.

Surely most app based ones, e.g. chip etc, are the same?
Does it not do the same as chip in that you set up a pin but can turn on biometrics? Have you checked the settings in case it's on by default?

What phone do you have? Android have a remote wipe feature, so if you lost it you can wipe it.

You could always get a tablet and install the app on there, or get a cheap nonsmart phone and PAYG sim to receive the texts. A form of 2FA. Just keep your phones stored separately.

No, all apps are not the same. Every time I log into the Tandem one the only security is that it asks for your phone number then texts you the OTP. Their help page says that if you enable biometrics you can use that instead but biometrics are already enabled so there is something wrong somewhere. So if you had just nicked my phone while it is still unlocked you would be able to login to my Tandem, because you have the phone number and can receive the OTP. They just need to add the option for a PIN really.

Most of the other apps I have used have a 4 or 6 digit PIN or a password.

Or potentially add a new linked account that appears to be yours but actually isn't and then transfer the money there instead...

I like Tandem overall but I also like Chip and I keep switching my funds between Tandem and Chip, via a current account. Until recently, I haven't had technical issues with either but now something odd has crept up in Tandem.

I used to have a Santander current account connected and was pulling in money from Santander, and pay out to Santander. Paying out still works, but pulling money in has suddenly stopped. I cannot reconnect my Santander account. Tandem CS say they have have had problems with Open Banking and I should use Bank Transfer to make deposits. I know I can do that but I much prefer Open Banking. Tandem is generally much slower than Chip, and having to use Bank Transfer makes it even slower.

The other potential problem with Tandem is the 0.35% top up bonus, which lasts for 12 months only. Mine is due to expire in the next few months. I hope they will extend it.
