Get rid of the right hand side of the page, i.e. Quick Links, MSE News (these are already at the top of the page), recovering that horizontal space (about 40 % of the screen width) will allow threads and posts to be tighter, perhaps reducing the vertical space used by about 50%.
Change the colour/tone of the posts' page 'surround' from light grey to dark grey. A thread post 'box' layout/colour, as I write, is good.2
