You should be a choice in a friendship, not an option.

Your an option that gives a free ride, free drinks, free day out.

Be more forthright and if you are still being taken for a ride 2 more games in, then walk away. Otherwise you are bringing it on yourself.

Get a new, kinder, actual friend set.

You really need to have an adult conversation with him. Maybe he's a bit clueless and it hasn't occurred to him that he's taking advantage of you. If you tell him he might be mortified and start being on time, contributing to the cost etc. Give him a chance to redeem himself if he really didn't think his behaviour through! But if he is taking the you-know-what and you call him out on it then he might fall out with you. If so, you haven't lost a friend because this would prove he isn't a friend to begin with!

If you really can't bring yourself to bring this up with him, then try being unavailable the next few times and see what he does when he can't rely on you. "Oh by the way, I need to go to xzy (somewhere in the opposite direction to his house) before the match this week so I'll have to meet you there" or " I need to go to xzy straight after, so you'll have to make your own way home next week!". What if you told him you a fancy a couple of beers (if you ever drink alcohol yourself) or your car is in the garage so you're gonna get the bus/a taxi?  But these are silly games really, and you should try to be a bit more assertive instead of letting people take advantage of you and then complaining about it (but not saying anything to them!

There was a money moral dilemma the other week about someone who regularly drives their friends to the pub, a lot of similar responses there.
