Hi,
      OAP seeking help.
Does a  monthly contract phone purchase ( from O2 say ) come with any worthwhile warranty ?

Also is insurance necessary or usual rip off ?

                                      All advice appreciated.

(fixed strange indentions for quote purposes to make it easier to read)

Warranty as in what?  What exactly is the problem?
As for insurance - its your usual double edged sword.  If you don't have it you'll probably need it, and if you buy it you won't need to claim on it.

No problem ,not purchased yet but if it fails during contract , what happens. Will it be replaced?

Well this is what o2 would do, suggest you check the T&Cs of the provider:

However, accidental damage usually isn't covered by these sort of warranties (such as if you drop it down the stairs).  Accidental damage on your home insurance may do though.

A mobile phone contract contains two elements, a phone and connection to the network. So part of the monthly bill is hp for the handset and part an allowance to spend on calls and data. In some cases one part of the contract can end before the other, these days it is not unusual to take out a long repayment for the phone but have the freedom to change tariff.
As with any other domestic item you are guaranteed against manufacturing defect but it is your responsibility to care for the product.
