It used to baffle me why people bid for items and then either changed their mind or failed to pay, fortunately it's not happened to me often in the 10+ years I've been selling on eBay. I think it's people who bid on multiple items only intending to buy one so spreading their bets or bidding on an item and then seeing another listing for a product that's a lower opening bid or in better condition. I've encountered tactical bidding where someone else is selling an item like mine and they either do a buy it now or make an offer, just to get my listing off.

What I do with all my lots is to message the buyer with an invoice and ask it be settled within 48 hours. I'll message again if it's getting towards the deadline and say I'll extend until the following morning after which time the item will be relisted. It takes no time at all to press the "pay now" button so no need to accept the usual "I'm too busy" excuses IMHO.
That’s part of the issue though, cancelling at no cost for the buyer leaving them to go away and keep doing it. If a buyer doesn’t pay and doesn’t make any acceptable arrangement to pay then on day 4 sellers should NPB them and let eBay give them a strike. 2 strikes and sellers can automatically block them from bidding or buying in future, and that will hopefully soon stop them.

never just cancel rather than doing an NPB unless buyer specifically requests it soon after the sale.

And had one of these last night.

Actually sent out offers to people to see if I could shift a few things. Get an acceptance on one and then almost immediately a cancellation saying it was all a mistake.

Guy just happens to be selling the same item - and must have been watching my item as he received my offer - but despite it being a totally diferent listing, with different photos, different pricing, a BIN lower than the amount I offered mine at and him not having offers open on his item he claims he thought I was making an offer on his item!

I haven't accepted the cancellation yet - tempted to force it through as a NPB. And have also filed a report to Ebay. Will talk to them when the chat function is back - i want to see if there is a way to reinstate a listing. Otherwise it's annoying as I've lost the listing and the FVF offer and would now have to wait to relist again until next Friday to get the same offer.

Whilst it's completely up to you what you do about this, if I was in this situation I'd just put the cancellation through. Whilst I fully understand and empathise that it's beyond annoying, life really is too short.

I don't think that eBay are going to be very helpful with regards to reinstating the listing under the offer you had last weekend. Less than a week to the next one though (hopefully) for those eligible 🙂

Yeah I'm just interested to see what Ebay say about it - it seems like an absolute gaping flaw in their system so interested in whether they acknowledge it and offer something or just say 'tough'

So just in case anyone else is in the same position I contacted Ebay on the chat and they told me if I relist it then they will credit back the FVF on the future sale in this instance provided I remember to get back in contact with them.

I’d be interested to know if they actually do that or whether it’s just the usual ‘get the punter off the phone’ comment. Personally I would re list this weekend if it hasn’t sold and you get the offers again.

Well they'd blooming better and ive chat transcript to show it!

They've P'd me off on another one today so I'm ready to swing for them after spending 2 hours on the chat only to get disconnected.

If it's not sold by Friday I will just relist it with the offer to save me the hassle.
