Flight Un-Delayed

We were booked with Easyjet from Glasgow-Belfast.
The airport screens showed the flight was delayed by 1hr and still didn’t show the gate so we waited in the departures area.
After approx 20mins the screens updated with gate 10 and at the same time an announcement was made for final call, this was the first and only announcement.
Gate 10 was at the very end of the pier so by the time we walked there the gate was closed and everyone at the airport couldn’t help us as no one worked for Easyjet.
2 of the 4 members of our party suffer from disabilities affecting mobility so while it may have taken us slightly longer than others to walk to the gate we still got there within about 10-15mins of that one announcement.
There was one other party that we seen talking to the staff at the gate about also having missed the same flight, not sure how many people in total missed the flight due to the delay then un-delay.
We ended up having to book an alternative flight later the same day to get home.
I’ve tried contacting Easyjet to see about compensation however they keep replying that as we were not denied boarding due to operational reasons we aren’t entitled to compensation, is this correct?
Not sure if the fault would lie with Easyjet or Glasgow Airport as they own the screens that displayed the incorrect information.

Not quite sure where to go next any suggestions/advice appreciated.
Thank I’m advance.

You were not denied boarding, you were late to the gate and missed the flight. Sorry about that.0
