why have people got such a hang up about smart meters?

they must have the internet in some description to post - so what's the difference?

Either paranoia, or perhaps they like not providing accurate readings to get lower bills?
There is a much more certain reason why  a small percentage of customers don't like the idea of a smart meter which has built in anti tamper sensors within in the meter . Nothing to do with paranoia though but more to do with  virtually free energy .
Are you both saying that folk who object to Smart Meters are thieves or mentally ill?
Did you try reading my post properly ? ..Notice I said " a small percentage " .I m saying , as a meter reader for 20 years that meter bypassing is huge, more so now with the big rises in energy prices .
Smart meters do cut down on the majority of meter bypassing .
There is defintely some paranoia involved .In the early smart metering roll out it was a big subject on here about the radio waves emitted by the meters 24 hrs a day .

No, that is very clearly not what @SAC2334 said. He/she merely makes the point that "a small %" don't want smart meters because they have features which makes bypassing the meter harder.

Thanks for clearing that up, sorry that I didn't get what you meant. I've had a foggy brain going on for a few days now... 😏
