PROVE MY METER DOESN'T WORK?

Thanks to you guys who have clarified the issue of ownership as the key issue so it will be changed by the will of EDF and I'm fine with that.
I was asking for my wife who doesn't want a Smart Meter but has given up her hope of retaining the analogue units.
I have already booked to have the units to be changed but needed to check with what I thought would be a pleasant forum so where better than Martin Lewis' site.
Unfortunately, there are too many here that seek any opportunity to mock or belittle those who, in your own very high experience, are less intelligent than you.
I'm glad I've not stumbled upon some of your twitter feed as they may be dripping in self-congratulatory mockery, ignorance and profanity.
To the rest of you, again I offer thanks for your help.1 -
Well you don't get stories like "Mr & Mrs Sith have a smart meter installed and everything is okay"Chrysalis said:DE_612183 said:why have people got such a hang up about smart meters?
they must have the internet in some description to post - so what's the difference?
Either paranoia, or perhaps they like not providing accurate readings to get lower bills?
Instead you get
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-10390767/Energy-bill-woes-pile-Complaints-overcharging-soar.html
Then you get stories of energy companies switching off smart meters remotely.
Lots to fuel any paranoia. Thing is if it is a concern then get to know the routes if it ends up faulty
e.g. https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/i-think-my-energy-meter-is-faulty-a2TuF9Y5HzfB
and maybe start collating data as soon as it'd installed, even if only to allay your own fears it might be faulty.2 -
My issue is that the meters are in a cupboard directly behind my desk, where I do work; if/when they decide to enforce replacement, it'll have to be outside work hours.

I'm sure you can take your lunch break while they fit the new meters

There isn't an actual law that says you have to have a smart meter, however it's up to the supplier to decide what meters he wants to supply (with a bit of coercion from the government).
In the end you dont really have an option - if you want an electricity or gas supply, then you'll need a meter and it's up to the supplier to decide what sort of meter he supplies and when or if that meter requires upgrading or replacement.
Although meters are type approved and have a service life, its still up to the supplier to make the decision based on his experience when to swap the meter.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
I thought suppliers legally can't bill against an expired meter?matelodave said:

There is a much more certain reason why a small percentage of customers don't like the idea of a smart meter which has built in anti tamper sensors within in the meter . Nothing to do with paranoia though but more to do with virtually free energy .Chrysalis said:DE_612183 said:why have people got such a hang up about smart meters?

Are you both saying that folk who object to Smart Meters are thieves or mentally ill?SAC2334 said:
