This is Motoreasy's go-to clause. Using it, they can wriggle out of pretty much any claim by ruling that the fault did not occur 'suddenly' and was the result of deterioration over a period of time. They did it twice to me. The so-called 'independent' inspector is anything but. He knows what they want to hear and he delivers it. He didn't even see the fault with my car, yet was still able to declare that it had not happened suddenly (which it had), based upon some photos. The Ombudsman did NOT back me up, saying that it couldn't be proven to have occurred suddenly. So don't think they are going to save you. I checked other warranty companies and they all have that same clause. These warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. They are a scam and a complete waste of money. I paid almost £2000 for a warranty to cover exactly the kind of fault I experienced with my car and they would not pay when I claimed, even though the item is specifically listed as covered by the warranty. It cost me a further £2200 to fix it.

Two months after we bought our secondhand 18 month old car the air conditioning stopped working and blew warm air into the car.
We were given a 6 month warranty with the car.
Our local garage investigated and found the pump had failed.
As they had had problems with warranty companies before, They phoned the warranty company for clearance to repair but were told it was not covered.
My husband contacted the warranty company but was told it was only covered for ' catastrophic failure'.
He contacted the dealer that sold the car and they told us to bring the car to them and they would replace it free of charge. They told us they were used to arguing with these companies.and would take it up with them.

Similarly to the OP I took out a warranty with Motoreasy. Now, after a very frustrating and time consuming engagement process with them, including them declining my claim, I am considering my options.
My warranty is for 3 years and I've not claimed anything in 2.5 years. Now there are a number of two specific faults with the car.
Motoreasy have put obstacles in the way to agreeing to pay for repairs. Here are a selection of excuses/reasons in no particular order.- Fault 1 is not sudden (it was for me, completely unexpected news when in for its annual service)
- Fault 1 is not a failure (even though the Mercedes main dealer has examined the car and declared the parts have failed and that it would fail an MOT because of this)
- Fault 2 was not reported within 7 days
- Probably more but my mind is reeling....
