I met my ex-husband in 2003 on Faceparty. His new wife found him on LinkedIn in 2018.
Faceparty is a bit of a blast from the past.

First for me would have been Bolt, signed up as a recommendation from Hotmail.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

In education, if you were applying for a new job, friendsreunited could tell you loads about what a school was like.

Don't really know what the modern equivalent of that would be now.

Some older websites and email services can be easily found using portal pages like thebigproject.co.uk

There's lots of places you can find reviews or comments about companies nowadays, Google is your friend!
The other side of the coin is, if you're looking to hire someone, search for them with Google. People actually have open facebook accounts and post things like "I've got an interview with XXX next week. Hate the company, don't really want the job, but it will do while I find a decent one." Easier than the back-in-the-day method of speaking to former employers! :)

You can't treat stupid! Same as the invalidity claimants posting pics of their skiing holiday
