SIX FIGURE CONBFIRMATION CODES - NO MOBILE SIGNAL
Comments

Wi-Fi calling is possible on many networks / handsets now so might be a possible solution. Even if not for this 6 digit sms code I’d be looking into it anyway, if I didn’t get a signal at home.0

Glad I'm not going mad! I have found that Chip doesn't 'like' being on two devices (iPad and phone), if I use one it seems to kick me out of the other one, which then requires a, you've guessed it, code sent by text message. I only started using the iPad this morning and the 'code sent via text' only happened this afternoon. So Chip might not be suitable for the OP, although if they stick to one device it shouldn't be an issue.EthicsGradient said:
Silly me. Yes, Wifi may make it all work. I was thinking that a lack of text functionality meant no communication for the phone at all, though I see that the normal way of texts working is only via phone masts - I'm not normally in the position of having Wifi but no phone signal, so hadn't thought through what would work and what wouldn't.Doctor_Who said:
Interesting. I assumed the app used wifi and not the phone signal (mobile data?) for communication. Indeed, Chip works fine on my iPad (I transferred money this morning) and that has no mobile connection (no sim card).EthicsGradient said:
The "pull" method of funding when you're inside Chip would require a phone signal, but I suppose the recently-added "push" from the current account method would work OK. But I think for a withdrawal from Chip, your phone will have to have a signal (and it's the temporary lack of a signal that's the problem, not 'texts'). I think the Cynergy account would work OK - certainly with the special-purpose authenticator they can give you (which photographs a QR-like code on your PC, and generates a code from it, that you enter into the PC). I suspect the phone app could also do that without a signal, but I'm not certain.Doctor_Who said:I've used Chip for the past couple of months for quite a few deposits and withdrawals - never been sent a code by text, not sure they even have this option. I've also used Al Rayan and Zopa and don't remember getting text codes from them when withdrawing money, although I haven't used them recently.'Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. Thank you all. I feel better for not being alone! I asked Saga if they would send the code via our landline, but they said it was not possible. [I had the same response from John Lewis for my wife's Parnership Card, but they gave in when pushed, and she now receives codes on the landline.] WiFi is OK, so links that way will work. I will try Family BS.
We are threatened with having the landline in our village disconnecetd in 2025. Best not to worry about that yet.1 -
Shawbrook Bank and Yorkshire Building Society send six figure codes to landline phones which you then enter into a box on screen. Coventry Building Society do it the opposite way, they call your landline number and you then input a four figure code displayed on screen into your phone.

Sainsburys Bank have the option to phone the landline and read a code to you.0

Sympathise with you about mobile phone reception. Seems quite a few people suffer with lack of it. I do.
Ford Money don't send a text code and their instant access account now pays 4.25%. Also if you request a withdrawal before 1pm it should be in your nominated account by the end of that working day. After 1pm following working day.
They also have a best rate guarantee so any increases on their variable accounts apply to existing customers as well as new customers.1 -
Shawbrook require a code so avoid them

Atom don’t use a code, however their rates aren’t up there with the best at present.1

RCI doesn't seem to need a code, you have the usual password page and then one asking for characters from answers to a question selected from several you set up when you open the account.
