Does anyone know of a way to use/dispose of old lumpy pillows that can't be revived?  I can't bear throwing them into landfill, but apart from using the filling (where appropriate) to fill hand made soft toys - which I don't make - I don't know what to do with them? Would a clothes bank be able to accept them, or charity shop?
I doubt it - they won't take them in the clothes/textiles section at our local recycling centre.

If they are not feather your local animal shelter may take them . If there is a Dunelm near you then most of their stores will recycle them for you
The RSCPA near me definitely won't, I've noticed a sign there when dropping some old towels off for them. Good to know about Dunelm, thanks!

See if your recycling center has a container for waste that's shredded either for electric generation or put in a bag marked rag for any charity shop that sells that on.

Unfortunately the rag man won't take them.

I have washed cheap pillows before and they’ve gone lumpy.  My current pillows cost twice as much but are much fluffier and wash well.

Thanks all. I have decided to treat myself to some new ones regardless (ensuring they are machine washable this time :D ). I will have a go at washing existing ones using all your tips, and if they survive unscathed they can go on the spare bed, if not I will see if Dunelm has a recycling point.

I'm another one who "double bags" my pillows but, despite that, I do replace them every so often rather than wash them.  Mind you, they're not feather ones and I know mine would go lumpy if I did wash them.
