Those less fortunate probably dont travel the world but may visit social services down the road .

If you use a bank which is locked to your mobile number it seems a wise precaution to consider what happens to banking services if you lose your phone or the SIM becomes faulty.
Some mobile service providers offer the abitity to swap a faulty SIM online whilst keeping your number and all allowances. No visit to a shop or contacting CS, so useful if abroad. So just find such a provider, port your number to them, then carry an unactivated SIM with you in case your SIM needs to be swapped out.
I can do this with my mobile service provider. They send out free unactivated SIMs to give to friends, I just kept one back for myself.
