Instructing bailiffs. What should I expect?

After winning a county court money claim, the debtors refused to pay up, so I paid the fee to instruct the bailiffs to recover the money owed to me. After five weeks, I have heard nothing from the bailiffs so have no idea what is happening. I would have thought they would contact me and advise me of progress.

The worrying thing is that the store which owes me money is closing down in a couple of weeks so if the bailiffs don't act quickly it will be to late.

What should I be expecting from the bailiffs?

Haven't you tried contacting the bailiff company to ask about progress.  They will be working on multiple cases so probably don't update until they have something meaningful to say.  That would either be that they have the money or can't get it.  If they are working towards a solution there is really nothing for them to tell you.

Have you asked the bailiffs what's happening? You are their client.

This is the problem. I have had no information and don't know who the bailiffs are. All I have received is a letter saying my request for a warrant has been approved and passed to the county court for action. The court just ignore any requests for information.

You can use this to track down whoever is operating in your area.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Apologies, I had assumed you had consulted a private company, rather than the county court bailiffs.

In that case, you will need to ask the respective county courts bailiff office. None of us will know unfortunately.

So you are using the county court bailiff?

The direct number for the bailiff office will be on the court website.

By now they should have paid a visit to the listed address and should be able to tell you what success they have had (if any)

As this is a store I would have thought there would be sufficient assets to get this done for you.

Unfortunately no number on the court website, but I did find an email address, so giving that a try.

I'd go to the court building and get the contact details from them

Received an email reply from the bailiffs office this morning advising me that the debtors paid up on the 16th June. But I am now awaiting a release date before the money can be transferred to me.

It's taken just over 12 months to get my money refunded from the store. The small claims process took around 6 months but we got there in the end!

    Well done.

It was a bit lax of the bailiffs not to keep you updated.
