Charter savings bank

Hi,
I have just opened a savings account, but when going through security with my current bank to transfer money it was declined on security.
I'm a bit concerned that it is a Barclays holding account and I do not have an actual account number, just a personal reference number.
On this basis by bank declined as could be a scam.
I've done everything I can. Googled company phone number and spoken to a member of staff, cross referenced address and logged in to an online account in my name, but I'm still anxious, and don't know how to transfer the money without being dishonest with my bank (the account number is not in my name and doesn't match their information).
Please advise.

These smaller banks all use a bigger clearing bank for their own bank account. So the fact that the account you are paying into is Barclays is not surprising.
Your own bank blocking the payment to a new account to be on the safe side is also not surprising . However a call to them should normally clear this up.

Do a test amount, e.g. £1.00. If your bank blocks it for security just call the number they give you. Once you've seen the £1.00 safely in to your Charter account online then transfer the remaining funds. Charter are fine. Many smaller institutions use bigger banks. The only downside is that it can take a while to appear in your account as there has to be a process at their end to move your funds from their holding account.

Have just recalled that Charter usually have a minimum £5k. It may be that they return your test payment. If that happens it means that the details you entered were ok and you're pretty safe to make any larger payments.
