Buying the phone & sim separately gives you flexibility to change networks as your needs / prices change, which is my preferred option. It isn't usually cheaper to buy a phone over 2 years, but there are a few exceptions - link to the one you've found?
What do you need from a phone? The G5 was a reasonable phone at launch - not sure what £10 a month gets you ?

mobile payg or contract
i have an old moto g5 thats starting to play up and needs rebooting often. i pay £10 a month on o2 payg.
i see for £10 a month i can get a contract with phone, and i dont use a lot of data, quite happy to download things on wifi for listening later.
should i go for a phone with contract or is there any benefit buying a phone outright and sticking to payg?

How much data do you get with your £10 / month O2 PAYG deal? How much data do you normally use a month?
Can you give a link to the £10 / month phone contract you have seen?0 -

Depends on what phone you want and how much data you use.
From what I have seen, an expensive phone usually work out cheaper with contract. If you are after cheaper phone, buying the phone + PAYG could be better as you will have more option.
By the way what £10 per month can get you?1 -
my o2 payg is about 6gb i think but i never use it all.
tesco has a moto e13 for 10.50 with 3gb.
i would like a smaller phone pref under 6 inches. moto g5 is 5 inch. so like 5.4-5.7 would be good.0 -
i notice a lot of cheap phones use android go, is this ok for most people?0

phone getting bigger these days. It is unlikely you would able to find a cheap small smartphone. Used apple iphone SE 2020 would might be the one you after if your budget around £150
Moto E13 spec is low.
BTW, are you have to be on O2 network?
For your budget, it probably be better to spend £130 on phone and £5 PAYG bundle

dont have to be on o2 can just port number over in half hour ?
those phone look good deals but massive, any view on nokia c02 thats 5.45 display.?0 -
i have done that before and it helps and ill try it again. i stupidly bought a nokia c02 and straight away its rubbish, poor screen, stupid case impossible to get the back off without damaging the plastic. and it runs slow , delays when opening anything. crazy how a 5+ year g5 performs better than a new handset.
may look for another g5 on ebay in new condition.0 -
ive found out theres a g5s that has 32gb storage instead of 16gb plus a bigger battery, everything else is the same.
id rather buy something new but the cheap androids are rubbish, slow and bad screens.
the only similar size phone is iphone se 2020 but refurbs at argos are £240.0
