Partner is losing his job…

We’ve got a holiday to Florida and my partner is losing his job. His contract will end, 31st August and I am worried how this will impact his experience as we’ve saved for years and it’s a “one in a lifetime” we leave in 40 days, I was just wondering if we could postpone it until Easter - what kind of fees would we be liable for. We’ve paid in full…
he’s a teacher so he might be able to get supply work but it’s still a shame…i think I would rather wait?!

Sorry to hear that.
Your options will vary depending on what exactly you've booked and who with. Whether you booked flights only, a package etc. You'd have to look at the booking conditions. 40 days isn't far away though so options may be limited even on a package which sometimes have more flexibility.
Your travel insurance may have redundancy cover which might be worth looking into.0 -
What is his view about it?
When I got made redundant, I deliberately took a month off to do whatever I wanted to, guilt free.
If I’d had a holiday booked, I’d have happily gone on it while I still had the opportunity. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.4 -

Unfortunately it's impossible to advise without more detail about your booking so you'd really need to go back to your T&Cs and see what you'd have to pay. Do you have travel insurance that might cover this sort of change in circumstance also?0 -
In our area there are still lots of teacher vacancies for September - so many teachers are taking early retirement or just leaving teaching to go to different industries - so he may still be able to find a new job 🤞🏻

If he is being made redundant and there is any possibility Money could be tight I would go now. Come back rejuvenated and ready to get back into work/job hunt if he doesn't have one lined up by then.
To rebook to Easter will involve fees. To me is makes sense to go and not incur extra costs.
Lots of teacher vacancies out there if he gets applying now they may get the paperwork done. Though I appreciate most cannot take a new staff member after certain cut offs (like Easter for September or whatever)0 -
You haven't said who you have booked with but you need to check the T&Cs regarding cancellation charges.
For example, a package holiday with TUI cancelled between 29 & 48 days before departure, you'll lose 70% of the holiday cost (unless you have TUI Flex).
Also check your insurance to see if you are covered for this.
What does your partner think is the best thing to do?0 -
with TUI also to change to a later date less than 70 days before current departure date is treated as a cancellation (so still lose 70% at this time)
Different providers will have different terms0 -
What subject does he teach - there is a shortage in several of these ?

If it's a package booked directly with the tour operator e.g. TUI, Virgin, you need to contact them direct and explain the situation. They may, or may not, agree to postpone the holiday. Alternatively you may be able to claim off your travel insurance. Many do cover this type of situation.
