O2 end of contract rip off ?

Just looking for opinions on the below.

To be brief, more or less forced to take out a O2 sim as part of a reduced price virginmedia contract, never used or needed the O2 sim, they recently put up my monthly O2 payment to nearly £20 per month, rang O2 up today to cancel the sim / payment and was told I'd have to pay the remaining months on the O2 sim / contract at 'full price'.

So now I've paid in advance for a sim I can't even use if I wanted to - I think this is disgusting and a total rip off. I'll never use O2 again that's for sure. I think they should have least given me a 50% discount on the remaining months. Anyhow I've raised a complaint via O2, anyone else had to deal with this type of rip off ?

Perhaps I should have cancelled the direct debit - more fool me ?

you agreed to a contract & no doubt in that contract will be detailed cancellation charges.
If you then choose to cancel why would you not expect the cancellation charges to kick in?

I was expecting some cancellation charges but not 100% of the remaining months and taking into account I didn't want, I didn't use the sim card, so they've already made a lump of cash out of me, they are not out of pocket.

As stated they've taken the remaining months of the contract at full price and cancelled my sim - how can that make any sense ? they've broke the contract, I've paid in advance for a service I can't get.

Regardless of the contract I say it's unreasonable, bad business practise, inflexiable and unfair. Personally my view is O2 is not a good company to deal with.

But they have not broken the contract. You cancelled it.

    I have paid in full for a service I can't use, I say that's a rip off.

Most other sensible companies will say your service will end at xyz date because you've paid for it. Either way it's a lesson for others to see and beware - O2 will extract every penny out of you they can, I still say they are unreasonable and unfair. The worst mobile company to deal with IMO.

But the point is that you could have used it if you had not cancelled it!

the BIG question is WHY you signed up to a £20 O2 contract that you did not want in the first place and did not use?

This is a money saving forum, so today's money saving tip, is do not enter a contract for a service that you don't want and don't or can't even use.

Exactly what techniques did they use to more or less force you? Threatening to burn your house down? I suspect that they offered you a better deal on other services on condition you took the sim. After considering it you agreed and kept it beyond the cooling off period. You were then advised of an early termination charge and also agreed to that and cancelled anyway. So it is entirely your own choice that you cannot use the service.
