SIM card for vacation to Turkey.

Hi all.
I have recently returned from a holiday in Dalyan Turkey.
TUI asked me to download the TUI app which keeps me updated whilst on holiday. I'm with EE but my e mails wouldn't download and my TUI app couldn't open.
It was a small hotel and were the only guests from that flight to be booked in. I couldn't open the TUI app to check in online which is what they want. I had to phone a number given to my on my booking e mail to get some info regarding check in and pick up time.
Does anyone know if I could purchase a SIM card in Turkey to replace mine whilst on holiday. Seems I've also been charged £6 per day for turning on the phone.

Yes, you can pick up a Turkish SIM from local shops in Turkey but obviously it will have it's own number.

You can also buy one before leaving, Lyca Mobile offer 3 plans called Aloturka S, M & L which include Turkish and International minutes plus data.

You'll usually find the Turkish SIM cards are cheaper than buying before you go.

    Hope this helps

It seems that your phone wasn't connecting to the Internet, does your ee plan include international usage limits? And were you able to connect to WiFi at all during your trip?

Local SIM cards tend to work best (I have Ukrainian and Armenian ones that currently work, but have had a much larger range in the past, the former of those I'm keeping active just for EU roaming outside my free UK limit).

Be aware you can only use a Turkish SIM card for 120 days per phone, I believe this is from first activation without a residence permit under Turkish law.

WiFi with a UK SIM card removed works well in most cases, especially now this service has become quite freely available in many areas.

Perhaps you had mobile data roaming disabled on your phone? Some handsets default to that and ask before enabling. No wi-fi available..?
