  • Congratulations, fostering can be both rewarding and challenging, as others have said. Just one word of warning, you spoke of "being parents again"; I realise that you probably meant that it'll be good to have children around again but do remember that you are not, and should not try to be, parents. Many people have used the expression "foster carers" and that's really the best way of looking at it.
Good luck - you may need it!
  • Hi, my partner and I are looking into fostering at the moment. she is a youthworker and I work with Looked After Children in a children's home.

In my experience a home is not the best place and we think fostering is the way forward. We know we would be accepted (we are lucky to have 'contacts'!)

Are question is financial. We would not enter the job to make money but would need it to equal my current salary of £18,000. Does anyone think this is possible?
  • I don't do fostering but supported lodgings to an 18 yr old girl (who was 17 when the placement began). She has been with me for just over 6 months and although we do have our moments, I wouldn't change her or the situation for anything.

She had lived in foster care since being born, sometimes with her carer's birth children, her birth-siblings and other kids who were looked after. Here it is just me and her and as well as her having her freedom, she is learning skills to be able to run her own home (mostly MSE). I think she has excelled me in the kitchen already and trying to shame me into doing more housework!!!

All the best with fostering OP, I hope you get matched quickly with a child that needs stability in their life. I considered fostering younger children but think I'll stick to the slightly older ones - only for the cooking abilities though!

    Good luck

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
