Amazon: Refused item delivery three weeks ago, after cancellation before dispatch, still no refund

Options
Hi,

I'd recently order a game controller off of Amazon (2nd June). The item was from an Amazon partner (3rd party seller).

After order the status showed a delayed dispatch as the item wasn't ready to dispatch. I'd sent a cancellation request to Amazon maybe a day or two later as I didn't need the item. This cancellation was sent before the item was dispatched. Ideally at this point, the item should never have left the seller.

The day after sending the cancellation the seller updated the item status to dispatched.

I went to help on the Amazon site where it said that 'if I no longer needed the item I should refuse delivery to get a refund', I did this once the item arrived.

I've sent messages to the seller (as Amazon ruthlessly directs you to every time) on two occasions, once two weeks ago, once today asking for the status on my refund.

The seller says they will refund 'once they get the item back'.

As it's been nearly 3 weeks since the initial message to the seller the item probably isn't going to make its way back if they don't have it.

Is there some way I can get through to humans on the Amazon side so I can get them to investigate this with the A-to-Z refund guarantee. I don't think it's fair that I'm having to wait this long for a refund I might not even get for a product I never received.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  • Use the Amazon live chat to talk to a human, you’ll find it somewhere within the help section. Once you start a live chat, the first part is automated. Keep telling it no, it’s not being helpful, and you’ll get put through to a human.

What tracking is there for the item? Does it say anything useful, such as refused, parcel returned to sender?

How long it takes to arrive back, or even if it goes missing, ain’t your problem. Since the parcel hasn’t left the possession of the courier, any issues are completely between the seller and the courier.

I would have issued a refund as soon as the tracking stated the parcel was refused and being returned to sender. There is no other outcome but a refund, and making you wait is pointless, and poor customer service. If you had accepted the parcel and instigated a return yourself, then, yes, I’d wait until the item had been received back.
