Having recently moved into our own home after years in tied housing we have a gas heating system with a Lifestyle LP522 programmer which is hard to see to set and separate thermostat downstairs which doesn't appear to work properly, can anyone offer any advice on the best way forward to replace them and what it should cost. We want to be able to set any system easily and as flexibly as possible. any advice appreciated.

In general, tho', the best solution would be to replace both items with a single unit that does both temps and timings. They are called Programmable Thermostats.
Are you techie enough to use phone Apps? If so, making the PT a 'Smart' type would be a good move too, as these are much easier to set up and control, and also give you 'remote' control over your heating, even away from home.
Are you DIYish at all? Can you wire a plug? A bit more? If you post a pic of your wall thermostat, it may even be a model that allows a straight swap.
Are you familiar with Hives and Nests and suchlike?0 -
It's a Drayton so, assuming uses the standard backplate, Wiser might be the easiest DIY "smart" install.1

Thankyou both for your input, I shall spend the evening looking at the options, although I admit to being wary of DIY where heating and water are concerned.1

I presume there's a dual-channel Wiser like the Hive, so it does both CH & DHW?

It will only work if you have a fully pumped system (so gravity fed is out), and there doesn't appear to be a DHW tank thermostat that can be integrated.Depending on the age of the boiler, it might pay to change it. Though, that could get to be expensive, especially if plumbing needs modifying or changing.

Thanks FB.
DRIBBLE, could we have photos of your hot cylinder, and the surrounding plumbing parts - valves, boxes, pumps, whatever is there, please? And the make and model of your boiler.0 -
