    Ah!

Never crossed my mind that it could be front fog lights, because

These are not tested on vehicles registered prior to March 1st 2018, but some people still follow the "if it is fitted it has to work" mantra.

So if it is the front foglight switch on a pre Mar 1st 2018 car (67 plate or earlier) then it wouldn't have been a fail if it wasn't there at the MOT.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I purchased a car online from a dealer in London last June and had it delivered. I recently took it for an MOT and the garage said that it should never have passed the MOT which was carried out before they delivered the car to me since the switch for the fog lights was missing (there is just a hole where it should have been and I had no idea what was supposed to be there so thought nothing of it). Is there anything I can do about their deceit in selling me a car with a dodgy MOT? I have all of their details still.

if that's the only think the mot picked up on, then i wouldn't not say that's a dodgy mot. I feel it's a bloody good mot. some testers miss a few of the electonics part of MOT. I'D call an mot dodgy if it has had serious safety issues that were passed over like work suspension bushes, rust, oil leaks etc.
