As per ThisIsWeird's post suggesting the exercise is videoed, drain rods are designed to be flexible to go round bends, and are relatively heavy.... getting a 12m string of rods to go 12m vertically up in the air would be an amazing feat if you do manage to perform it though.(Long bamboo canes are more rigid and weigh less)0

theonlywayisup said:Are drain rods the same as my chimney rods? I thought they were, but I can categorically say my chimney rods would do the trick. Not heavy, and we've had them take a cowl off the top of a chimney that was on the top of a three storey house chimney. We weren't cleaning the chimney but the cowl had an old birds nest and it needed 'knocking off'. Total success.

ask the local firefighters if the want to do a ladder demo?
(I find firefighters very helpful with odd situations. Best was when neighbours managed to lock themselves out of their house leaving their baby inside. Couldn't get a locksmith out as they didn't have their wallets so couldn't prepay. The dad who was youngish but had had a stroke so not great mobility was trying to get a ladder high enough to be able to leap from the ladder to an open balcony window. I called the fire department who were having a slow day and were glad of an excuse to go for a jolly.)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Tree surgeons etc sometimes use hand catapults to launch throwing lines. But you would need to choose what was on the end quite cleverly to damage the bag but not get stuck in the tree.

Nip to the shops and buy some fish. Catapult fish into the bag. Tie a length of rope to a cat's tail. Sling cat up to bag. Wait for cat to start eating the fish and yank the whole shabang down.
However, using a small child would probably result in fewer scratches.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2
