Switching to EE PAYG from Pay Monthly - also cancelling Apple Watch plan

Currently have an iPhone 13 Mini (for the first time since iPhone launched, I’ve not wanted the ‘best’ version - I’m usually a total tech geek and like to get the best version of things) - I opted for the Mini because it was better in my pocket and my usage hasn’t been particularly high in recent years.  However, I am wishing I’d got the larger version now, so looking to upgrade to the new one when it launches as I’ll be out of contract at that point.  I think I’m paying too much for what I use anyway, so here’s what I’m on post-price increase:

Currently on EE pay monthly with an Apple Watch plan too, as follows:

£40Gb per month, unlimited calls & texts: £63.76 (this includes the handset)
plus
Paired Apple Watch plan with £5Gb per month = £40.01

Before the price increase my bill was £92-£93 per month, now its approx £10 more.

My data usage averages 10Gb per month, calls and texts are virtually zero, so I am looking to buy the new iPhone outright, then pay as I go, with a plan that has an allowance of data commensurate with my usage.  Not bothered too much about calls and texts.

Also thinking of selling my Apple Watch because although it’s handy, I’ve rarely used it without my phone (just when on runs and when paddleboarding) - I am thinking of selling it and buying a Garmin Fenix watch instead which has far better battery life and better health integrations (wish garmin did a standalone watch to allow calls!)

However - I have become a very privacy oriented person over the last few years, so much so that I am thinking of changing my number because I’m aware of how many companies have my number, and I do get annoyed with spam calls on a weekly/fortnightly basis.

Need to consider that the iPhone is highly likely to be eSIM compatiable only.

iPhone 15 Pro, £1099 outright
Cancel with EE - no PAC would like a new number.
Looking for 10-15Gb per month data, PAYG eSIM.

There are so many options but tbh I am finding it all quite confusing.  Does anyone here have any advice on best option to keep monthly costs down but maintain this data usage?

Is eSIM a deal breaker? If so your options might not be as numerous as you might think - reason being that the only provider currently (and officially) offering eSIM on PAYG is Lycamobile, which runs on O2's network.

If not, and you're happy with EE coverage, then I'd suggest 1p mobile - 25GB for £12.50 a month would cover the usage you mention.
  • Hey,

As previous poster has said, 1p Mobile is a really good and affordable alternative, which piggybacks on the EE network.

If your willing to look around at other networks to find a good deal for the right price, I would first recommend using the coverage checker I have attached the link for here.

    https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/mobile-coverage

Have a look, see what networks have the best coverage for your area and see what would work best for you. If you feel as though you can live without the eSim, there is a wide variety of plans that would suit your needs but, if the eSim is a priority, only one network offers this on PAYG and that is Lycamobile.

Hope you find the plan you like!

You get 5g on 1pMobile, I don't think you do on EE payg. 1pMobile also have the 4g/Wifi calling that EE offer. Easy to change your boost data pack from month to month if you find you need less or more. I switch across to 1p from Sky and I've been very impressed so far.
