Hi All, I found on my Birthday of all days, that my email account and facebook account had been hacked. I have been able to regain control of my email account, but my facebook account is still unaccessible. Before I go any further, I found that the email address in facebook account has been changed and the mobile no listed is still mine, but the +44 (replacing the 0 for the UK) has been changed to +1, which is prefix for india. So I cannot access via email of mob phone.
OK, so I then go further and find out that you can send Fb 'proof of ID', such as driving licence or passport. My query surrounds this part of Fb help.
So, once I have sent proof of ID, should I get a confirmation email from Fb saying they have received such ID proof and once this has been confirmed we will contact you again?, or don't Fb acknowledge receipt of ID proof? (I have read that if ID proof not accepted, either too fuzzy or can't see all info, then you would get email advising of this!!! So, why not simple email saying that have received ID proof?
Next, it will be a week tomorrow since I have sent proof of my ID to facebook help following all correct links. How long should I wait before I have to open another Fb account?
I only have 35 or so friends listed on my Fb account, and the messenger account that is of course linked to my Fb account is used to allow my Wife and I to speak to our 5 yr old Grandson. This is the most upsetting thing. As well of course losing all photos and all posts that I have, or rather had, since 2009! It is my life album.
Thank you for reading and grateful for any advice, or any further help that anybody can offer in additional ways that I might be able to regain access to my Fb account & messenger.

+1 prefix is USA0

Oh! Maybe I got that wrong, but that is what I recall it coming back as the number to send code to (which I obviously didn't as it is not my prefix. My prefix is +44 then my mob no., currently, is it coming up as the hackers/or no they changed it to, which was just the prefix, to +1, they didn't change the remaining mob numbers!).

Where did you send your driving licence?
The process to get back into your account doesn't normally involve sending ID.
Usually, they would ask you to name your friends from photos they show you and to confirm your date of birth.
If you've set it up they can also ask friends to verify who you are.
If all these fail then they will ask you to upload using a form on the Facebook help site, your ID. They don't ask you to email it as email is insecure.0 -
Hi PHK, I didn't send ID proof by email! I sent that following instructions on Fb page. I have just done same thing again and actually got message from Fb to reset password. Clicked link and it asked for a code! I clicked no code recevied then got 1 in emal. This 6 digit code did not work! I kept requesting new code but kept getting same 6 digits that didn't work a dozen times. I left it 15 mins then got different 6 digit code but again this didn't work.I do not think the hacker is hovering over my account as my email address is now visible along with his. So there are 2 email addresses linked to my account, mine and then his below. If he was hovering, he would remove my email address at 1st chance.I think I have tried too many times for today as I am going round in circles and will try again maybe after midnight.None of my contacts on Fb have messaged to say they have recieved any messages from me, via Fb, so I do not know for what reason they want my Fb account for.At least I know you shoudl receive response from Fb once you have submitted ID proof using the actions of Fb. I also don't recall saying I sent drivers licence by email to Fb, however. Many thanks and if you can addanything to this new information it wold be gratefully received.0

I think it’s your choice of words, you didn’t send your ID, you uploaded it.As for the code, it was not the best thing to keep resending it. It will only confuse things. You need to slow down and very carefully read what it says on the screen or you may get locked out again. When it says the code has been sent, wait and do not click or type anything until you get the email. They aren’t instantaneous and can take several minutes.1

Hi PHK, many thanks. I got email from Fb saying a friend had uploaded a photo. I clicked on photo and it gave me access to my account. I immediatley searched account o change password and after a while found it. (Why the hell they had to make matters so much more difficult just to find and change password, God only knows.)Anyway, could I recall my password, No. I clicked on this and nothing was being sent to me email address. I didn't keep clicking and remebered patience. However still nothing forthcoming. At same time as above email I also received a further from Fb about the 2 email addresses that are listed on my account. It gave me the option of deleting the hackers email, which I did. This was done whilst I was still waiting for new password email so I can reset and secure account.I was just happy to have access to my account. However, I left to do other things, came back and found I had been logged out. Yes, you guessed, the same hacker regained access and control. This is because prior to this both our emails were on the account and to which the reset 6 digit were being sent.So effectively, I had gained access to my account but could not secure as not remeber current password in order to set a new password. It is whilst I have been waiting for email from Fb to reset that the hacker returned! So I am back to showing ID proof, which I have done, I then got the 'Final step to get back on Fb' email, and clisked the link to reset password, but then this was asking for a 6 digit code! How are we meant to work with Fb when they have link to reset password but which asks for 6 digit code when I have not even yet been sent a 6 digit code. Why Zucker had to complicate matters that do not work as they should (not just me as daughter in law also went throught the motions to confirm it isn't me!).If you have any further ideas or advice then yes, please, help!0

I am alittle bit confused. In your post yesterday you wrote "I kept requesting new code but kept getting same 6 digits that didn't work a dozen times. " but today have said "I didn't keep clicking and remebered patience. "

Yes. Matter was left overnight. Then when I first checked emails etc, I found the email from daughter in law with new pic on my Fb account. I then went through as above, remembering as you said, notto keep clicking. Once in my account, I eventually found the change password, and had to click on forgottent password. I then waited for change password email ffrom Fb but nothing came. It is wilst waiting for this that when I cam back to laptop after about an hour, noticed I had been logged out and hacker had regained access and control. I have even been through the ID proof stage again and had the 'final step to get back on Fb' with the link to reset password. Except it doent ask for a new password, it asks for a 6 digit code that I have never received. Even now at time of writing I have not received any 6 digit code from Fb.I can imagine that sometime this eventn or tomorrow, there willl be a number of emails from Fb with the same exact 6 digit code. I also thought that these codes were 1 time codes and if new 1 requested, would be a different code, but from yesterdays lessons, I have aout 20 emails delivering codes with only 2 different numbers 726414 and 045815. And when these have been entered, it just comes back codes not recognised!0

It could be that someone has gained access to your laptop.
I suggest that you download the Malwarebytes program and do a full scan of your laptop. It could take quite a long time but will run in the background. At the end it will come up with a report of what has been found. Just use the free version of Malwarebytes and reject any offers of the premium version.

Nobody has had access to my phone, tablet or laptop. All at home and never leave my side. Non working environment. Cheers for the thought, though.
