Hi All,
Looking for advice on what seems to be a never ending battle of kick backs and miss information or complete lack of NO IDEAR.
I have been employed continuously since 1982 without any tax breaks until 2020-2021.
In 2020 the company i worked for had announced its Covid protocols for the shut down, which included working from home.
HR phoned everyone in the company, to find out if anyone had any medical conditions
that would put them at risk. I informed them i was on the at risk on the gov list.
As the days got closer to shut down, i was informed that i would have to come in for 2 weeks and work from home for 2 weeks. This was not an option i could agree with, as i was still at risk. On shut down day we where then informed we could not take our PC's/Laptops home as this could be a security risk to the company's computer system.
Two months into the lockdown and before paid furlough, i decided to give my notice in and look for a position else where. The pandemic worsened companies shut down no one
taking on. So i was force to live off my savings.
So onto 2021 back to full time working for another company, After 18 months working there, started to loose my sight so needed a double Cataract replacement operation.
After the second operation upon leaving hospital i developed Covid, that sent all my other condition throu the roof into critical, in and out of hospital for months. Could not return to work and still not working due to complications.
Tried to claim for Gov support, what a joke!
Claimed for PIP could only get the lowest rate, £25.00 per week. Tried other gov support schemes ESA but but did not comply as i was missing Ni tax for 2020.
other benefits could not apply as over £6000 in bank account.
Could do with some advice, guidance on if i can claim back any missing Ni tax for 2020 and this year. As saving wont last forever!
All comments advice welcome.....

You cannot claim back NI except in very specific cases. NI is based purely on your weekly / monthly pay packet and unlike income tax it is not based on annual earnings.

Thanks Molerat,
Thanks for your feed back on that..
Still seems a bit crazy, that I would have to pay around £750 for a missed tax year that was caused by the gov lock down.
It asked the vulnerable to stay safe and isolate and yet this is at the expense of the people we are trying to protect0
